Guggulu is the oleo gum resin obtained from the plant Commiphora mukul (Balsamodendron mukul) and its major active phytocompounds include Gugglusterones, Guggulsterols, diterpinoids, volatile oil, etc.
Z and E-Gugglusterones are isomers found in the resin of Commiphora mukul, which is resistant to digestive enzymes and is stable in gastric juice.
Guggulu itself exhibits anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic properties etc. It is also used as a base material in various Guggulu preparations as it acts as a binding material as well as enhances the bio-availability of the actives and enhances the pharmacokinetic properties and improves the therapeutic benefits synergistically.
The probable advantages of Guggulu preparations could be carrying the lipophilic compounds found in the herbs, improving their bio-availability and cellular permeability resulting in enhanced therapeutic efficacy.
Guggulu is purified as per the Sodhana Procedures in Ayurvedic texts and then used in our medicinal preparations.
Guggulu Tablets are available in both strengths 500 mg and 1 gm DS.
